The original Super Mario RPG was developed by Square together with Nintendo and released in 1996 in Japan and the United States for the Super NES. The game is the first RPG to star Nintendo's mascot, Mario, and for 7 years, Square's last game on a Nintendo console, who only returned to work together after the 2000s.
