Shift Up, developer of Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, has increased its market value by over 700% in the last 5 years. The data was revealed after the South Korean company WeMade Entertainment bought 4.2% of Shift Up shares for US$7.4 million in 2018 and sold them for US $53.9 million in 2023, indicating that the studio has grown by over 700%.

Shift Up is mainly responsible and known for developing Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, a mobile game popularized by having attractive anime girls as a main element.

According to a Chinese media outlet, Singaporean holding company Aceville (a subsidiary of Tencent) was the one that purchased 2 million shares previously held by WeMade Entertainment. The channel believed the share sale was vital for WeMade Entertainment as they were hit with a $64.5 million loss in the first half of 2023.

Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is currently one of Tencent's top three highest-grossing mobile games, and the game's monthly revenue is US$32 million (excluding China). The title has racked up more than $400 million in revenue since launching in November 2022.

These numbers remind me of an issue that became a meme on the internet, where Western developers seem to be increasingly making their female characters "non-feminine" and quite masculinized, believing that the general public no longer cares about attractive female characters in games. Meanwhile, Asian developers continue with their sexualized female characters.

Unfortunately, we won't know if this question is true or not, as Western developers make these types of characters mainly in large franchises that, just by the name of the IP or absurd marketing, already sell enough to break records and do not depend exclusively on originality, story and its characters to attract the public.

About the game Goddess of Victory: NIKKE

Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is set in a place where the earth has been destroyed by unidentified weapons called Rapture. Players will play as an Android named "NIKKE" to fight for humanity. The game makes use of advanced live2D and 2.5D paper folding technologies to make characters and battle animations more lively. The game also supports a cooperative mode, where players can complete missions with up to 4 players.

The game is a third-person shooter on mobile that puts players in control of a NIKKE gun, to fend off Rapture. Players will need to shoot enemies while managing their ammo count, enemy attacks, and using the right weapons for the jobs.

With the power of animation and live2D and 2.5D technologies, you can experience everything from the sparks that shoot from a gun to the shaking of characters' bodies due to recoil. Additionally, animations for using skills and detailed facial expressions are provided.

Since launch, the game has accumulated more than 25 million downloads.
