Mike Rose recently released his game Spirittea for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and Game Pass, and it seems like it had a positive debut, achieving very good numbers and becoming profitable already in first day.

Spirittea managed to reach $1 million in sales in the first week, with 150 thousand players across all platforms. The first week's profit alone was 3 times greater than the development costs.

On his X profile, the developer states that this was a fascinating release, especially because of "where the game was most successful". According to him, the normal thing is for games to have a stronger launch on Steam, but it seems that things are changing.

With Spirittea, Steam ended up being the weakest platform in sales, with Xbox and Switch accounting for 80% of the revenue generated by the game. For him, the reason would be that Steam has attracted more and more AAA publishers, making the public have many more eyes on major releases.

I think the reason for this is at least in part due to the way the Steam store has evolved in recent years compared to console stores. Many more AAA publishers began releasing their products on Steam, without being able to make non-Steam PC platforms happen.

In turn, Steam has become more AAA-heavy, meaning there's more attention on the bigger releases and less on the smaller releases. On console, the playing field has remained largely the same. There's actually *less* AAA on the Switch, as the Switch can't handle the newer AAA ones

So at launch, Spirittea easily entered the bestseller charts on Switch and stayed there. This means that while Steam sales have naturally started to decline, Switch sales remain solid as people discover more of the game through Best Sellers.

Being available at launch through Gaame Pass, the developer claims the game was a huge success on the service. In addition to attracting many players, Mike claims that several people decided to buy the game after testing it on the service.

On Xbox, Game Pass has (as always) been huge for us. Spirittea was actually supposed to launch in 2022, but after we struck a deal with Game Pass, we decided, hey, let's make this even bigger and better – hence the delay to 2023 and added over 100 hours of content.

Over 100,000 people have played the game on Game Pass in the last week, and we've heard many people say they bought the game on Steam or Switch after playing the Game Pass version. So once again, a ridiculously good experience for us
