Scheduled to hit stores next Friday the 20th, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the newest release from Nintendo which unfortunately suffered from the leak of its complete ROM on online piracy sites. The practice is nothing new, but Nintendo has been suffering from leaks of its main games for a long time.
The leak caused the internet to be filled with spoilers for the game, videos are appearing on social media uploaded by players who already had access to this leaked ROM. In the case of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, spoilers could compromise the news that the game promises, as it is the first that brings a new approach to gameplay with several new elements and surprises that may appear in the game, such as the Phenomenal Flowers, which promise excerpts from Unusual gameplay for each stage.
This is a problem that Nintendo has been suffering from with several of its releases, as new Switch releases and leaks tend to go hand in hand. For example, Pikmin 4 which was leaked days before release, Fire Emblem Engage also started circulating online a few days before release. The same thing happened with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which was arguably worse, as it happened more than a week before the game hit shelves.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder aims to renew the classic formula of the series, being the first 2D game in the franchise released in the last 10 years.
