Momodora: Moonlit Farewell presents an account of the greatest calamity to ever strike the village of Koho, five years after the events of Momodora III. Soon after the tolling of an ominous bell is heard, the village finds itself threatened by a demonic invasion. The village matriarch sends Momo Reinol, the most capable of her priestesses, to investigate the bell and find the person responsible for ringing it and summoning the demons. Both are hopeful that by finding the culprit, they can also ensure the safety of the village — and, more importantly, the sacred Lun Tree, the source of life and restoration in Koho.

Momodora is a series of indie games, which follows a priestess who tries to prevent her homeland from being ravaged by a curse. The game is a classic 2D action subway with an emphasis on exploration, with several locations to explore and enemies to face, being quite challenging at first. In total, five games were released, four from the main series created by indie developer Bombservice since 2010. The previous game, Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, received critical acclaim, selling over 800,000 copies worldwide.
