The anime's official website Girlfriend, Girlfriend (Kanojo mo Kanojo) revealed that production on the second season has been greenlit. Since Monday, the author Hiroyuki has been posting images daily in a kind of countdown, which culminated in the image below:

As now that it has been given the green light to start productions, the new season should take some time to gain new details. The anime's first season premiered on July 2, and stars Junya Enoki as Naoya Mukai, Ayane Sakura as Saki Saki, Azumi Waki ] as Nagisa Minase, Ayana Taketatsu as Rika Hoshizaki, and Rie Takahashi as Shino Kiryū.

Manga artist Hiroyuki began publishing the work on March 4. The "romantic neo-comedy" manga follows Naoya, a first-year high school student. After he confesses to Saki, the girl he has loved for some time, they decide to start dating and Naoya's life is filled with happiness. However, one day, a beautiful young woman named Nagisa also confesses her love to Naoya. Naoya and Nagisa immediately hit it off, and he tells Nagisa that he already has a girlfriend. She vows to confess to him again one day, when he suddenly proposes that they go talk to Saki about him going out with the two of them at the same time. Saki and Nagisa hit it off right away, and although Saki was angry and reluctant at first about the idea, she eventually agrees.

Other manga by Hiroyuki such as Aho Girl, The Comic Artist and His Assistants and Doujin Work have already been adapted into anime.
