The first season of Seirei Gensouki – Spirit Chronicles aired in July 2021, with 12 episodes and being produced by TMS Entertainment studio in collaboration with Wao studio World, directed by Osamu Yamasaki (Toward the Terra, ItaKiss, Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom), with script and script by Mitsutaka Hirota, Megumu Sasano and Yoshiko Nakamura. Character design is by Kyoko Yufu.

In the story, Rio is an insensitive orphan who lives in a favela. At just 7 years old, he realizes that he is actually the reincarnation of Haruto Amakawa, a Japanese university student with a tragic past. While still recovering from this shocking epiphany, Rio also discovers that he possesses extremely potent magical abilities and uses his newfound powers to solve a girl's kidnapping case. His good deed is recognized and he is rewarded by being enrolled in a prestigious academy for noble children…?

Seirei Gensouki – Spirit Chronicle is originally a novel written by Yuri Kitayama and was published on the website Shōsetsuka ni Narō (Let's Become Novelists) in February 2014, later gaining a printed version with illustrations by the artist Riv in 2015. The work was also adapted for manga in 2017 by Futago Minaduki.
