Through his official Twitter manga Ken Akamatsu confirmed on Sunday that his manga UQ Holder! Magister Negi Magi! 2 will close on February 9th. The latest issue will be published in Bessatsu Shōnen publisher Kodansha magazine, which had reported in May last year that the manga would end in nine chapters.

UQ Holder! Magister Negi Magi! 2 takes place in the same world as Negima! a few years after the end of the manga. The story follows a young man named Touta, who dreams of leaving his small town and moving to a big city. However, he must first defeat his teacher, the immortal Evangeline.

The manga was released in August 2013, only under the title UQ Holder!, in Weekly Shōnen magazine, but was transferred to Bessatsu Shōnen in October 2016 earning the new name UQ Holder! Magister Negi Magi! 2, confirming that the manga was a sequel to Negima. The work has already inspired the anime adaptation that aired in October 2017, which won 12 episodes along with three OVAs.

Mangaka Ken Akamatsu announced in December that he plans to run for the Council of Councilors, Japan's upper house of Representatives, as part of the Liberal Democratic Party in elections taking place this year. His goal running for the Japanese legislature is to protect freedom of expression.
